WIND MITIGATION inspection

CHECK WITH YOUR AGENT

Compass Inspection Services, LLC was created to fully direct attention to providing the best and knowledgeable professionals to help homeowners get the proper credits and discounts on their homeowners insurance. USAA policyholders get very good discounts as do policyholders of Chubb and Pure. Check with your insurance agent to see if their insurers follow the LDOI Wind Mitigation Credit policy.

Effective January 1, 2009,

wind mitigation insurance credits / discounts were mandated by the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDOI) based upon certain characteristics of a new or old home. Some items that warrant credits are Hip roof design, secondary water barrier, hurricane straps on rafters at the wall top plates, approved hurricane shutters or impact windows and wind rated architectural shingles. Homes built since 2007 were built under the Louisiana Uniform Constructions Code and should have some items that receive credits on the wind and hail portion of the homeowners policy. Single and two family residential properties qualify.

CIS provides the training and skills to property owners in order to apply for Wind Mitigation Insurance Credits / Discounts.  Our surveyors check the property to determine what items are to be used in completing the Louisiana Hurricane Loss Mitigation Survey Form.  They will advise homeowners of items that should qualify as well as other possible items that can be installed for additional credits / discounts.  Once the form is completed the registered surveyor will certify the form so that the owners can file with their agent or insurance company.  Generally, CIS files the forms and photos with the insurance company or the agent.

The Louisiana Hurricane Loss Mitigation Survey Form can only be certified by a registered wind mitigation surveyor, architect, engineer or code enforcement officer.  General contractors or home inspectors are prohibited from certifying the state form as noted in Louisiana Department of Insurance BULLETIN NO. 09-01 dated February 02, 2009.

We complete this type of inspection focusing on the appropriateness of a given structure’s construction in the event of strong winds such as a hurricane. Homeowners often submit this report to their insurance to receive a discount on their premium.
